Text Box: From The President:

On the 18th of August we held our state elections. The results have ensured Utah will continue to thrive. Effective 1 Oct, Kit Workman is your new president. He moves into this position having been active in the Utah AFA for 10 years. He has been an active member of Chapter 235 for many years and has been a leader, to include Chairman of the Board, for the Aerospace Education Foundation. His Vice President will be Wally Saeger, past president of the Industrial Associates and Vice President of the Aerospace Education Foundation. I will become the state Secretary and Mike Jewett will continue as Treasurer. I have also selected Wally Saeger to be the Chairman of the Board and President of the Aerospace Education Foundation.

As I turn the state leadership over to Kit I would like to reflect on our successes of the past two years and challenges for the future. The Aerospace Education Foundation continues to increase in its successes as reflected by the Teacher of the Year recognition banquet we now hold and the over-all increase in our recognition by educators throughout the sate. The rewards of this program keep coming back to us with the continued success of the AFROTC programs in Utah, the continuing advances being made in the Hill Museum learning center and the high quality of teachers annually competing for our teacher of the year awards. Once again we spent approximately $70K on Utah Education, and the good news is we continue to raise sufficient funds to continue with this level of budget.

The Utah Industrial Associates once again held an ever improving Requirements Symposium and our membership continues to increase as local DoD contractors and business associates gain valuable insight at our luncheons. This organization has also provided the Utah AFA with many of our chapter and state leaders, and I want to say thank you to all who have joined our leadership ranks in these past 2 years.

All of our chapters have continued to thrive financially. The great programs that each chapter runs have allowed the Utah AFA to fund numerous base functions, the VA hospital, the museum and many more at ever increasing dollar values. Our chapters have won national AFA recognition, but more importantly we have been the “Force behind the Force” here in Utah.

Finally I would like to reflect on some of our challenges for the future. The Utah AFA, when compared with many other states, is somewhat small, having approximately 1400 members. All of our programs are accomplished through the volunteer efforts of about 75 of these members. As volunteers move on to other activities in their lives we always need new folks to volunteer. We also need some of these volunteers to move up into leadership positions. If you are one of our current active members, please invite friends to join us in our effort. If you are a member who wishes to become more involved please contact me or your chapter leadership. More hands always makes the load a bit lighter.
